Inter/Intra Personal is my first solo show, debuting March 7th, 2024 in the List Art Center at Brown University. This collection of paintings showcases both my collage work and my oil painting. All of these paintings, despite a range of content and context, were derived from a memory. An interaction, a relationship, a sequence of events that illuminated the turning gears of society in one way or another. The Three Impossibilities of the Black Damsel is a series I came up with that winter. Power, Freedom, and Love are possible for us in theory, but input stereotypes, daily harassment, systemic disenfranchisement, eurocentric beauty standards, white patriarchy, sexual exploitation, capitalism, etc. these facets of life become more of an illusion than a reality. I wanted the figures in these paintings to be in direct conversation with both the viewer and themselves. Internal conflict is perhaps the most difficult hurdle, but also one that we have some control over as long as we acknowledge it exists. This series centralizes the show and the themes of each of the paintings included.
